Rap artiste, C-Zar has indicated that he has come back into the music industry to save the Hiplife genre from destruction.
According to C-Zar, real name, Augustine Osei Owusu who spoke to Graphic Showbiz, musicians in Ghana are now trying to sound like Nigerian and American acts and this trend is killing the industry.
“The Ghanaian music industry has become terrible now because we are deviating from the natural style of Ghanaian music and trying to sound like people from other countries.
Hiplife is a fusion of highlife and rap but some of our musicians are now doing different things in the name of Hiplife. No wonder their songs are not selling,” he said.
Reacting to criticism of his rap style with many slamming him for being the worst rapper in Ghana, C-Zar indicated that he is a poet and he chooses to simplify the lyrics of his songs in order to make his songs catchy and easy for my audience to memorise.
“I am a poet and just because I do not rap like Sarkodie and the others does not mean I am not a rapper. I also coin words like ‘Choppable’ because as a mature artiste, I do not have to use profane words in my songs to make them hits.
People say all sorts of things about my style of music but whenever I try to change my rap style, they are the same people who tell me to go back to my old style. Ghanaians are funny people so I have decided to stick to what I know best,” he added.
